Tour Fever
In less then 24hours 189 men will take to the street of London to begin the most grueling sporting event in the world. Over the next 23 days there will be triumph and heartbreak; glory and disappear; victory and defeat. All this to wear the Maillot Jaune (Yellow Jersey) on the Champs-Élysées. This is the Tour de France, and I love it.
Like many cyclists I’m tired of all the talk of doping and speculations on who’s doing what. At times it’s made me loose heart in the sport I love—is this all we can talk about. Ah but nothing can revive the love like the Tour. Despite last years results still being in doubt I’m looking forward to the battle ahead.
I’m definite rooting for American Levi Leipheimer and the Discovery Team. Even though in my heart it’s Alexander Vinokourva and his Astana team who look to be the ones to beat. Regardless it will be an exciting time.
Vive le Tour.
